Sfilato 19 Cm Cow Horn

The Sfilato is the most typical knife produced in Frosolone. It owes its name to its shape characterised by a progressive decrease in width from the bottom of the handle towards the tip of the blade. It is a simple spring knife that became widespread from the end of the 19th century following the enactment of several laws prohibiting the carrying of 'fixed spring' knives. The blade has a sharp, symmetrical point and a narrow flat blade ending in a false edge. The handle, usually made of buffalo or bovine horn (sometimes also 'tortoiseshell'), is mounted on two metal plates and terminates at the top with two iron or brass heads worked with edges.
